August Tech Events

There are three major conferences coming up in August you should know about, two in Tennessee and one in Alabama.

First up, August 9th is CodeStock. This event will be held in Knoxville TN on the campus of Pellissippi State. They also have a Twitter account you can follow to get the latest news. Looks like quite an event, I counted at least two authors and ten MVPs among the speakers!

Next up is TechMixer University. It will be held Tuesday, August 19th in Birmingham Alabama. The speaker list will be published shortly, but trust me it’s a good line up including several MVPs. And it’s free!

Finally, devLINK will be held August 22nd and 23rd on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University, just outside Nashville. This one looks to be an awesome event, some really big name speakers will be here including the dotNetRocks guys!

Matthew Dean to Speak at BSDA in July

leave a comment »

Matthew Dean, a developer for CTS will be presenting July 10th at the Birmingham Software Developers Association. Matthew’s subject will be Office Business Application development.

Office Business Applications (OBAs) are a new breed of composite applications that combine the Microsoft Office system with information and processes defined in the line-of-business (LOB) systems to help businesses unlock the value in their LOB systems. OBAs help to bridge the results gap that currently exists between line of business systems and end-user productivity tools by providing a seamless and integrated end to end user experience.

In his session Matthew will discuss the benefits of OBAs for developers and end users, the architecture of an OBA, and review the capabilities of 2007 Office System Interoperability with Visual Studio 2008 using Visual Studio Tools for Office (VSTO). During the review of VSTO’s capabilities we will dive into some code and demos that show some of the interaction with Word, Outlook, and Excel.

The meeting will begin at 6:30 pm at the New Horizons training facility in Homewood.
